STOMP: A Performance You Don't Want to Miss

I had the opportunity to see STOMP at the National Theatre in DC on opening night. And let me tell you - this show is amazing! Like most people, I’ve heard of STOMP before, but never really knew what to expect. I guess I imagined there would be lots of cool rhythms and beats made from banging on trash cans. I was mistaken. This production is so much more than that!

I was impressed to see so many everyday items transformed into percussion instruments on stage. The cast surprises the entire audience with fun beats made from plastic bags, take-out cups, matchboxes, shopping carts, and broomsticks, to name a few. They used everything but the kitchen sink - wait not true. They even used the kitchen sink as a part of the show. Don’t believe me? I guess it’s one of those things you’ll just have to see for yourself.

The cast has plenty of tricks up their sleeves and utilizes some serious hand-eye coordination throughout the night that I would never try at home. I left the theatre with a new perspective, just looking for ways to make music with anything I could possibly get my hands on. STOMP is incredibly interactive, exciting and hilarious for any age. Just ask the kid behind me who couldn’t stop laughing.

If you’re on the fence about purchasing tickets, I highly recommend seeing STOMP while it’s still showing at the National Theatre. Performances run now through April 28th, so you won't want to wait. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Tickets can be purchased at https://thenationaldc.org/events/category/series/stomp-19/.
